What is Flow Blockchain (FLOW)?
FLOW is the cryptocurrency powering the permissionless layer-1 Flow blockchain that allows developers to build highly scalable web3 apps. As per the official website of the Flow platform, it has achieved over 300 million transactions and a 99.99% uptime without compromising decentralization.
The smart contracts written on the Flow network use Cadence, an easy and secure programming language to develop crypto-related projects. Flow has a multi-node architecture where the job is generally done by one miner divided across five nodes which reduces the amount of work needed to be done by a node and results in faster throughput. Moreover, Flow uses a unique technique called Proof of Confidential Knowledge (SPoCKs) and its PoS consensus mechanism to maintain its secure decentralized system. Under this mechanism, the nodes of the Flow network need to show a SPoCK, which is unique and unforgeable information for every node to earn rewards. This information is Proof of the Confidential knowledge that a node can only obtain by rightly executing all the assigned transactions.
FLOW token is the currency required for building and operating any dApp, smart contract, or project on the Flow blockchain. Flow network validators and developers use it to participate in the consensus and earn rewards in exchange. It can also act as collateral when someone wants new tokens issued on the Flow network. Lastly, the holders of FLOW tokens also get the right to participate in the governance of the entire Flow ecosystem. The total supply of FLOW tokens is 1.43 billion.
