What is Aptos Network (APT)?
APT is the native currency of the Aptos Network created by Aptos Labs. It powers the Layer-1 Aptos blockchain that combines BFT (Byzantine Fault Tolerance) protocol with Proof of Stake consensus for validating transactions fastly and giving a throughput of 150,000 transactions per second (TPS).
Aptos works to bring mainstream adoption in Web3 by supporting dApps that can solve real-world user problems. Unlike sequential transactions of other blockchains, Aptos processes all transactions simultaneously and validates them later. It is also efficient to prioritize certain transactions if required. Aptos employs a unique programming language called Move, developed by Meta’s former blockchain engineer. This language offers a few additional features, like enhanced security, compared to similar programming languages.
As a platform currency of Aptos, APT is used for paying network transaction fees, participating in governance, and involvement in staking to contribute to network consensus. Anyone creating or deploying dApps and smart contracts on Aptos needs APT tokens to pay the network cost. APT has an initial total supply of 1 Billion, out of which Aptos has reserved 51.02% for the community, 19% for core contributors, 16.50% for the foundation, and 13.48% for investors.
